Healing Hands

When I had my first bodywork training in Bali pre-covid days (yes we’re labeling timelines this way now) a Balinese lady came to be my test model on the second day of training. During our post-massage review, she spoke no words at first and simply grabbed my hands. Her enthusiasm took me by surprise. I looked at her and waited for a reply and she finally smiled and exclaimed “Your hands… your healing hands! You have a gift, Candice.”

I was elated by her compliment and even happier when my teacher nodded to her remark. While I have no clue (to this day), what a pair of healing hands entails, I believe it is more than just the hands doing the work.

Over the past two years of my practice, I learnt to listen intently for non-verbal cues from my clients.

The quality of their breath tells me their state of mind.

The bodily structure shares an intimate story of their journey on Earth.

Their willingness to yield assures me that they feel safe in this moment.

With the companion of the Indian Raga playing in the background, my touch awakens parts of the body that were neglected. I hear and acknowledge their passion, sometimes hardships, and untold responsibilities. My massage strokes channel a passage of time to reconnect with their inner landscape. My presence is an invitation to simply be here now.

Healing is intentional, sometimes intuitive.

Healing is nourishing and nurturing.

Healing others taught me to care for myself.

Healing myself gave me the capacity and conviction to continue this life work.

I have always believed that offering bodywork is just the first phase of SOL House. I dream of building an academy to teach all things Ayurveda and Bodywork Therapy someday, and I’m now taking a baby step closer to this dream of mine.

What I believe is the essence of being an embodied bodywork therapist will be shared in the September intake of Ayurvedic Bodywork Immersion (Level One). Beyond the wisdom of Ayurveda and Abhyanga, the Level One Immersion is deeply rooted in embodied living.

We will collectively identify:

  • Our role and purpose as an embodied bodywork therapist

  • Our support system to avoid burnout, chronic fatigue and imposter syndrome

  • The importance of touch, connection and consent

If you deeply resonate with my journey and want to do the inner work, reach out to learn more or secure your space online. We have three spaces left to fill and the immersion begins on September 4th.

I look forward to journeying with you.

Big love,

Candice
